Lovely Louboutin For Fall

Christian Louboutin never fails to amaze me with his gorgeous designs. He also never fails to make me spit my coffee out after seeing the price. True to form, these padded booties are absolutely stunning. But alas, I will probably never own them because really, I just can’t spend more than a grand on one pair of shoes. I think it is a mental barrier for me. Two pairs? Sure. Three pairs? Even better. But one pair for four figures just puts it over the line I guess. Which is really too bad because if there was any pair to make me do it, it would be these ones. (But not so much these ones). I’m curious, any of you out there in shoe land regularly pick up the four fig shoes??

Olympic hero Becki Adlington wants two more gold medals - and two more pairs of shoes.
Adlington, 19, who won Britain's second gold in the 400m freestyle, is a self-confessed shopaholic who was promised a pair of designer shoes by the Mayor of Mansfield if she won gold in Beijing.
And her mum Kay and dad Steve have also said they would buy her a pair of £400 Christian Louboutin shoes for every medal she wins.
Adlington, who lives in Mansfield, has still got a chance to win gold in the 4x200m relay and 800m freestyle - her strongest event - and admits she will treasure the shoes nearly as much as her gold.
"I was invited out to dinner with the Mayor of Mansfield after I made the British Olympic team and he promised me a pair of Jimmy Choos if I won a gold medal," said Adlington.
"Then my mum and dad said if I got a medal they'd buy me a pair of Christian Louboutin shoes.
"I've got well over 30 pairs. I wish I was a centipede so I could wear more. I've got one for every outfit.
"I've only been able to afford a good pair of shoes in the last year or two, but hopefully I'll be getting more. I think there's a lot more medals to come. This is great for British swimming.
"The 800m is a really different event but I'm very confident going into it.
"And our relay team is looking really good."
Adlington's best friend Jo Jackson won bronze as the Britons pulled off a major shock with American Katie Hoff edged into silver by seven-hundredths of a second and Italian world recordholder Federica Pellegrini finishing fifth. It was a special moment for Adlington when she stood on the podium with the gold medal round her neck and sang the national anthem.
"I was just so happy to be on the podium with Jo who is my best friend. It was just amazing, just a great experience," said Adlington, who was Britain's first female swimming gold medallist since Anita Lonsborough in 1960.
"It was unbelievable when the flag went up. I looked at the rest of the team and I just started to cry because it was amazing to see two British flags there."
It was a major surprise for Adlington to win even though her time of 4.03.22 was more than two seconds outside of Pellegrini's world record.
Adlington and Jackson dropped down to seventh and last place respectively between 200m and 300m but fought back - even though Adlington did it without her parents in the crowd. Her mum and dad missed the 400m freestyle final after being left £1,100 out of pocket and without tickets by an internet scam, although they will be in Beijing for her next two events.
Adlington says she was so excited by winning gold that she refused to take it off at the athletes' village yesterday.
She said: "My mum and dad will be flying out to watch me Thursday, then hopefully again on Saturday.
"They originally only booked tickets for the 800m because I wasn't sure I'm make the British team for the 400m. I've only seen the race again on TV when I did an interview for the BBC. I thought: 'I did not win that.' "Then they showed it again and my hand just got there under the water.
"I saw Katie Hoff at 250m and thought: 'I've lost her.' Then on the final turn, with 50m to go, I just thought: 'Just go for it.'
"When I got back to my room they had put: 'Well done, Becki' on the door and written messages for me and Jo which was really nice. We walked into the team meeting and everyone stood up and gave us a massive round of applause.
"It's so nice when you've got Mark Foster, who has been to five Olympic Games and someone I look up to, and for him to be doing that for me is just unbelievable.
"I had the gold medal on for the whole afternoon. I didn't want to take it off, I even sat there with it round my neck in the dinner hall and when I went into the dinner hall."

This is probably the only time you will ever hear me say this, but I think this sneaker-pump combo actually kind of works here. I don’t quite know why. I mean the heel looks ridiculously high and I usually hate these hybrid mixes between sport and dress. But yeah, don’t know. I think they would look cute with jeans. There, I said it. Even though it’s still as hot as Hades in these parts, I’ve already started the boot lust. I love these ones by Givenchy (and the flats are equally drool-inducing). DSquared2’s Toothpick Heels

Heysoooos, who designed these? Certainly not a woman who has ever had to walk a block in heels. They seem ridiculously out of proportion to me and at $842 dollars, um yeah. not so much. I do love the color & straps though, but not enough to inflict that sort of torture on myself. Even more amusing than the assumption that someone could look sexy while navigating these is this description of them on the Zappos website:

“Fiercely frolic and conquer new heights with this utterly death-defying stiletto by DSQUARED2”.

Well at least they got the death part right. What they should have said was:

“Try to totter around on toothpicks to the amusement of your friends! You will without a doubt topple over at some point, most likely in front of some hot guy you are trying to hook up with.”

Really. Pink foxes. And whom, you may ask, is the creator of such whimsical shoes? A virtual menagerie-o-fun if you will? Why none other than Mr. Marc Jacobs of course! I know I give him a hard time, but ok, ok.. these are kinda cute. At least they don’t have WHISKERS attached like the rat shoes. If you want to feel a little foxy (groan), you can get yours here.

More Outfit Fun & New Shoes

So this weekend’s outings have produced quite a bit of loot for me. In the interest of trying to save money for vacay, I tried to hit some sales and do some frugal shopping. It also helped that this weekend in Texas was tax-free weekend, where clothes, shoes & some accessories under $100 were all sales tax free. And a store called shoe pavilion was going out of business in the d-f-dub area, so it was the perfect storm! First on Saturday, I worked on some of my needed accessories from last week’s outfit planning. I picked up the pocket watch necklace, turquoise cuff bracelet, purplish-hued necklace & bracelet to match my Lanvins and of course.. some hats! I bought two, but only pictured one below, as the solid brown one I got looks ridiculous (which I found out when I got home). I added a brooch as the Fabulous Angela suggested, and it looks cute. I also picked up an awesome little jacket from the Gap, which was probably my favorite find of the weekend. Scroll down for the jacket and an outfit I’ve thrown together for it! I added a pic of my Barbara Bui boots, but I’m still on the fence about whether or not I’m actually going to drag them across the pond...

Although these are a bit on the gothic side, (and lord knows I’m not really a black nail polish, dungeons & dragons sort of girl) I actually really like them. The Outfit Planning Has Begun...

So it’s about t-minus 2 weeks until my summer vacay (!), which can only mean one thing. Yes, it is time for me to start obsessively planning outfits (and somewhere Simon cringes). To give you a little background, I am basically ridiculous. As in, I usually create spreadsheets in excel to help me maximize space in my suitcase by interchanging shoes, jewelry, pants etc for different outfits. Simon just throws some pants and shirts in a bag. But whatever, my way is much more efficient. Anyway, I don’t think I mentioned it, but our trip is now going to include a couple days in London. Yay! I’m pretty excited to get some time in cooler weather (It’s about 70 f in both Paris & London, compared to our 100 degree plus days here). Here are a couple of the outfits I’ve been working on. I’ve tried to only use items I actually already own so I can try not to go on a massive shopping spree in the next two weeks. Which is probably going to happen anyway, but at least I tried...

Bergdorf is having a pretty good sale right now. Lots of the summer styles are in upwards of 50% off. These caught my eye initially because of the gorgeous color, and upon closer inspection, cute details and a good sturdy heel. But alas, sizes are limited If you are lucky size 7 or 10, hurry quick and snatch your pair!

The Rene Caovilla Spring/Summer 2008 line is now on sale for up to 50% off. (Sadly, my shoe is not included). However, these shoes are pretty pricey. As in most never drop below the four figure line. SO yeah, 50% equals still a lot of money. The ones pictured above, were originally $1280, now on sale for $640. These little hotties below, orig $1095, now $547. I really need to work on that whole becoming a trophy wife thing. Seriously.

Gawd, I can barely type with that deafening sound of angels singing in my ears. I saw this shoe in person at the Neiman’s downtown the other day and about fainted. Isn’t it pretty? This picture still doesn’t do it justice. It’s just so glamorous! It’s available on the Rene’ Caovilla website (here) if you are so inclined to pony up the four figure price tag. Mark my words, if this shoe ever goes on sale, it will be mine. Regardless that I own absolutely nothing to wear it with. And I do mean absolutely nothing, as my closet is currently lacking in the luxurious ball gown department. SIGH.
